Jungle Island, neighbor of the Miami Children's Museum, offers a lush oasis for animals lovers.

Be sure to make time for the Winged Wonders show, where colorful birds fly in circles above your head. See birds talk, fly through hoops and more. Meet the king vulture, the cockatoo, the 6-foot Cassowary and many more colorful winged creatures.

Another great performance, produced by the conservation organization T.I.G.E.R.S., is the Tale of the Tiger. Find yourself face-to-face with a wolf, a tiger, a skunk, a white-handed gibbon and even a binturong. After the show, stick around and purchase a photo of yourself and a cuddly tiger cub, with proceeds benefiting T.I.G.E.R.S.

Fun and informative Keeper Talks occur throughout the day, and include Primate Presentation, Flamingo Feeding, Manu Encounter, Tiger Tales, Feed the Lorikeets and Kangaroo Konnection. Grab a map at the park's entrance to find out what show is where.

Monkey around with the orangutans and cool down with the African penguins. Your little one can burn some energy at the park's playground.

At Jungle Island, visitors are close to the animals. Parrots line certain walkways and are not shy. If you want an even closer animal encounter, explore the park's VIP options, which include a 90-minute Safari Tour, a Lemur Experience and a Penguin Encounter.

If you get hungry, pop into the Lakeside Cafe and grab a bite to eat. Indoor seating and outdoor seating is available, and the outdoor patio has a lovely view of Flamingo Lake. You will surely see a group of flamingos brightening up the lake. Also if you need a break from the outdoors, a small arcade can be found inside the Cafe.

Jungle Island has educational (and fun!) programs like the overnight Jungle Slumber, summer camps, scout programs, fieldtrips and more. There may be some discounted days or special promotions going on at the park. Check the website or call the park for details. Jungle Island is open 365 days a year.

Jungle Island's Treetop Ballroom can be rented for fund raisers, corporate events, weddings, birthday parties or other events. Contact the park for more information.

University of Florida Gator Day @ Jungle Island

If working at the jungle isn't wild enough, imagine working amongst a sea of orange and blue. Yesterday, was officially Gator Day at Jungle Island. It was really exciting to see all the students and fans wearing their UF pride, while The University of Florida band, cheerleaders and mascots rallied up the crowds with their music and cheer. The UFAA and Gator Boosters Inc. were on hand giving away Gator goodies and local and state media captured all the excitement and fun. My loyalty still remains with the NFL, but I’ll be putting my money on the Gators tonight!

Go Gators!!!

Isn't this the cutest picture you have ever seen? Meet Anjana (baby chimp) and one of two baby tiger cubs that was separated from its mother after Hurricane Hanna. Anjana has taken on the role of adoptive parent to two baby tiger cubs. Anjana has been helping China York, animal trainer, care for the baby cubs at The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species. She plays with them and even helps with their feeding.

You can see Anjana daily at Jungle Island's Tale of the Tiger show!

A "Winged Wonder"

A green wing macaw parrot suddenly turned up months ago and has decided to make Jungle Island it's home, specifically the Parrot Bowl. It had taken to flying in the beggining of the Winged Wonders show with the other free flying macaws and was seen walking on the net that covers the Manu encounter where again, macaws are flying free and co-inhabit with the squirrel monkeys. Ryan Prentice, who runs our famous bird show, Winged Wonders, thinks that it is middle aged. Since it had no tag, we assumed that it escaped or has been on the loose since Hurricane Andrew, 15 years ago. We didn't know whether it was a male or female, as you cannot tell with parrots, the male and females are equally colorful, all of them except for the electric parrot, where the females are red and the males are green, which it was. Although it is not tame, we managed to catch it and placed it in the Manu Encounter with the other free flying birds. Today, he has become the alpha male of the Manu Encounter!

"It's Pretty Much My Favorite Animal..."

Sure, there may be plenty of beautiful birds, an array of creepy reptiles, and groups of primates that will bring a smile to your face, but there is one certain thing, there's only one "King of the Jungle". Our Guinness World Record holder, Hercules, is not only the largest liger, but also the largest cat in the world, standing tall at over 12 feet and weighing more than 900 pounds! Here at Jungle Island, the only attraction where Hercules can be seen in person, he has surely swiped the popularity contest for his own as more and more people around the world learn about his presence. Our hybrid of tiger and lion has appeared on countless shows, such as the 'Today Show', 'Good Morning America', and 'Inside Edition' to name a few, warming hearts wherever he goes. Hercules, however, has some competition from his cuter, smaller nephew, Oden, who is also featured at Jungle Island. Oden, a Liger cub, and Hercules continue to show why Jungle Island is a premiere venue in South Florida for rare animals, entertainment, and fun!
